Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, the Independent Parliamentary candidate for Gomoa Central, has expressed confidence in the efforts of the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure Ghana holds free, fair, and credible elections. Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, A Plus acknowledged that while no institution is without flaws, he believes the EC’s new measures should be embraced as part of the country’s democratic progress.
“We should not be paranoid; we should trust the EC that everything will be free and fair. I don’t believe the whole electoral commission will set out to rig the elections,” he stated, emphasizing his faith in the EC’s commitment to a transparent process.
As an independent candidate, A Plus shared his personal experience, describing the electoral process as fair and transparent. “Anything they give to the political parties, if we write to them, they provide it. We’ve been guided through the process, from the printing of ballot papers to the transportation of materials to constituencies,” he explained.
He expressed optimism that the upcoming election would be peaceful, attributing this to the vigilance of political parties, who have actively raised concerns to ensure fairness. A Plus also praised the police, led by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for their preparedness to maintain law and order during the election. “Dr. Dampare will arrest anyone who goes against the law. He will not spare anyone. So, if you think you can use your power to intimidate people, think twice. Even me, who is close to him, he won’t hesitate to arrest me. Be very careful on election day,” he warned.
